1408, starring two actors; John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, this movie takes place in a haunted hotel run by Samuel L. Jackson's character. The synopsis of the story is simple. John Cusack's character is a horror novelist who only believes what he can see with his own eyes. He has been writing books discrediting the paranormal and his next book is intended to discredit the haunted hotel. He plans to spend ten nights in the haunted hotel but can he even survive one?
The Mist starring actors like, Thomas Jane, Marcia Gay Harden and Laurie Holden is based on long short story and considered as one of King’s scariest movies. This movie revolve around a powerful thunderstorm unleashes a mist that envelops a small Maine town. Dozens are trapped inside a supermarket knowing that in the mist are horrible creatures which feed on humans. Being stranded takes its psychological toll. The trapped shoppers split into 2 camps: those who believe it is an act of a vengeful god who demands human sacrifice and those don't.
This is a great horror film. From the opening scene, Darabont sets a tone that's creepy, sinister and beautifully judged. The script is realistic, the characters are believable and the direction... Darabont has almost reinvented himself. The Mist is dark, scary and even funny (intentionally). The scary scenes are scary, and the whole film is carried off with efficiency, a lack of pretension and a strong idea of what makes a good, if not great, horror film.
