It is quite ironical that the poet who is so highly respected today was not so loved during her lifetime. Her reclusive nature was to a great extent responsible for se not being loved as she lived. Emily for most part of her life remained restricted to her home- Homestead. She did not leave he house till the time it was absolutely necessary.
Though she came out for a walk on and off. But that was also rare and was restricted to her home itself. It is also known that during he last years Emily stopped talking to people face to face. She would only speak to them from behind the door.
