Mark Twain’s original name was Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Mark Twain was just one of the many pen names that he used. The writer also wrote under the pen name of "Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass" for a series of humorous letters. His sketches were signed under the name of "Josh" until 1863.
Mark Twain was born in Missouri on November 30, 1835 to a Tennessee country merchant called John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens. He was born as sixth of seven children in the family. His father died because of pneumonia when he was eleven. It was after his father’s death that Twain took to a job as a printer’s apprentice.
Later on he took to writing. H started writing for the newspaper Hannibal Journal. He even contributed a number of humorous sketches for the same. However, it was The Celebrated Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County that is looked upon as Twain’s most important work. The writing was immensely popular. After the popularity of this work, Twain was commissioned by the Sacramento Union to write letters about his travel experiences for publication in the newspaper.
It goes without saying that he is the writer of all times.
