While Rowling was writing her first Harry Potter book in December 1990, her mother died in the same year. Her mother was battling from multiple sclerosis and succumbed to death. The death left a very tragic impact in the minds of Rowling.
Another problem that J.K. Rowling faced was due to her marriage. Rowling was married to a Portuguese television journalist Jorge Arantes on 16 October 1992. She also has a daughter from her marriage- Jessica. The marriage called splits and the two separated in November 1993. The break up left Rowling in grief and she was diagnosed with clinical depression. She even contemplated suicide.
The Harry Potter series may have become a huge success today but Rowling had a really tough time getting them published. She sent the copy of her first book to nearly twelve publishing houses and it was rejected by all of them. It was a year later that Bloomsbury agreed to publish the book.
Rowling also faced several other minor problems as regards her relationship with the press that called her ‘self indulgent’. She was even engaged in several disputes concerning the piracy of her books.
