Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published by Bloomsbury in London on 30 June 1997. The book won multiple awards. One of the many awards that J.K. Rowling received for the novel includes Nestlé Smarties Book Prize and the prestigious British Book Award. A full length feature film was also made on the novel, which was again a huge commercial success. Nearly 5 million copies of the book were sold throughout 2001. The book had found a dedicated fan base and the readers eagerly awaited for the next edition.
Though the novel won endless accolades and awards, it was faced by some criticism as well. Several religious groups were against the book as they asserted that the novel comprises of several occult or satanic references. The book was published in the United Kingdom under the title “Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone”. However, it was published as "Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone" in the United States to help appeal to American audiences.
The book till date enjoys great popularity and is remembered as one of the finest works of Rowling.
