Rightly known as the electric man or the father of electricity, Benjamin Franklin invention of electricity brought a revolution in the entire world.  

He was a man of many talents and interests. It was the scientist in Ben that brought out the inventor. His natural curiosity about things and the way they work made him try to find ways to make them work better. During that time, people thought that lightning was a mysterious force and was a punishment from God. After seeing lights during the thunderstorm, he thought about something that could produce an unusual artificial light. However, the idea to invent electricity mesmerized many but Ben actually turned the imagination into an authenticity. He produced electricity by flying kite during a thunderstorm.

He attached a pointed metal piece on the top of my kite and a metal key to the base of the string. Lightning struck the kite and traveled down the kite string to the key. When he touched the key with his knuckle, there was a spark! Although he was knocked unconscious twice before when experimenting with electricity, yet he undertook the experiment. More...

There is a long list of Ben Franklin’s invention. He had a simple formula for success. He believed that successful people worked just a little harder than other people. He usually invented things to make common life-style better. “Improving every-day life by improving things of common use”, this was the dictum behind Ben Franklin’s maximum inventions.

As a postmaster in 1775, Ben had to figure out routes for delivering the mail. He went out riding in his carriage to measure the routes and needed a way to keep track of the distance. He invented a simple odometer and attached it to his carriage to help measure the mileage of the routes. A speedometer measures the speed of a moving vehicle, whereas an odometer records the distance that a vehicle travels.
