Tituba’s Witchcraft Claims :
Tituba’s witchcraft instincts began when she participated in a magic ritual administered to Betty Parris by Mary Sibley who was their neighbour. This together with her Indian origin and her own and other cultural experiences added legitimacy to her claims. Another contributing factor was her feeling of isolation from the community that made her initiate a mystery and scare.
The magic ritual to Betty Parris didn’t work and the ailment spread to three other people who were involved on the ritual. This was during the infamous Salem witch hunts and when the authorities questioned the three, accusations were directed to Tituba and her two associates Sarah Osborne and Sarah Goode.
In 1692, Tituba and her two colleagues were arrested. She was the first one to be accused and the first to confess as well.
