The man who was popularly known as “King Kwame” hit the headlines but for all the wrong reasons during his tenure as the mayor of Detroit. He was not only accused of unfaithfulness at home but also found himself on the wrong side of the law quite often. He was accused of a string of offences including murder, obstruction of justice and perjury.
Scandals :
Kilparick not only made history as the youngest mayor of Detroit but also as the only one to be charged in a court of law while still serving. His tenure at the helm of Detroit was marked by a series of scandals.
The young mayor was accused of misappropriating city fund and directing the money for personal use. The tabloids had a field day covering this flamboyant mayor. He was accused of hiring strippers to perform at the official residence of the mayor an allegation he vehemently denied.
Kilparick was also linked to the murder of dancer Tamara Greene which took place at his residence. He was also accused of influencing the sacking of his former bodyguard and a police chief.
The former mayor was also caught up in a text messaging scandal that involved Christine Beatty who was by then his chief of staff. The messages pointed to a love affair and a corruption deal.
Amid all the allegations, Kilparick made a disgraceful exit from the office of mayor in September 2008.
