Fettes Brot Biography
Fettes Brot is a German hip-hop group founded in 1992 by Dokter Renz (Martin Vandreier né Schrader), Boris (Boris Lauterbach) and Schiffmeister (Björn Warns) as the founder members. The word Fettes Brot is a German word for fat bread. There band got a name from a fan who called them “Fettes Brot” after a gig. |

It was a complement from the fun but the band members found it to be very weird and took the name as their stage name. Sometimes the band members do call their band as the “Hamburg’s hip hop-dinosaurs” Their first success came with the release of their first single Nordisch by Nature and its album and a year later the band released their second biggest commercial hit and a quasi-anthem Jein.
The band was quite for sometimes after the release of their single in 1998. It was a very quite time for the trio in 1999 and they released their fourth regular album in 2001.
The trio founded their recording label in 2004 called the Fettes Brot Schallplatten (Fettes Brot Records). They won their second place in the Bundesvision Song Contest from their dramatic comeback in 2005.
It was the song "Emanuela" that brought them back to limelight. They released another single in 2006 for the soccer fans in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The song was entitled Fussball ist immer noch wichtig.
The band has worn various awards like the ECHO in 1996, Comet 2005, and GQ Man of the Year in 2005, Eins Live Krone 2005, ECHO 2006 and MTV Europe Music Awards. Their latest album release is Strom und Drang (“Electricity and Stress”) in March 2008.
