Singer, choreographer, actress, and American Idol judge are the many hats that Paula Abdul wears. The California born singer was once a cheerleader for the Los Angeles Lakers where she launched her career as a choreographer. She worked with the Jacksons as an assistant dance director and later worked with Janet Jackson. Paula Abdul who was born on June 19, 1962 used her experience as a choreographer to launch her own career in music. The California State University drop out and an honors student at Van Nuys High School went on to sell over 53 million records in her music career.
Paula also made a mark in the film industry and she starred in several films. She played a role in the 1987 film “Can’t buy me love”, the 1997 release “Touched by Evil” as well as starring in a number of television episodes such as “That’s so Raven” and “Less than Perfect.”
Paula’s career took a nosedive between 1997-1999 when her third album flopped and she even considered calling it a day. It was also during this time that she divorced her husband Beckerman after a highly controversial marriage.
They say when it rains, it pours and Paula discovered this when her attempt to move to television acting hit a brick wall. She played a role in the television movie “Touched by Evil” which was a flop. She got a lifeline in 2000 when she got a role as an American Idol judge and even her music career blossomed again.
