David Hilbert
Some of the celebrities who specialized in math included a German mathematician, David Hilbert. The German celebrity has been recognized as one of the most influential and universal mathematicians worldwide of the nineteenth century and early twentieth.
David Hilbert invented a wide range of elementary ideas some of which incorporated the axiomatization of geometry, in invariant theory, and functional analysis as well.
René Descartes
Other individual who made a remarkable contribution in the field of mathematics was a Greek philosopher and mathematician René Descartes. Rene formulated analytical geometry and together with Isaac Beeckman, Descartes initiated the use and application of algebra to solve many mathematics related problems.
He demonstrated how algebraic formulas could be applied to determine the increase in water level and draw several geometric graphs that predicted the accelerating speed of a substance falling in a void within an estimated period. By 1618 many sources showed that Descartes was applying different algebraic equations to solve problems related to geometry.
Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale pioneered graphical representation of statistics by use of pie charts. However, she was among the fist in the English-speaking world to relate statistics to civic health.
Other math people included France president-Paul Painleve who had a distinguished career in mathematics, Laurence H. Tribe, a professor at Harvard Law School and Eamon de Valera the then president of the Ireland Republic.
