Earlier life and education :
She was born to an army colonel father and a banker mother. Wanda was born in Portsmouth, Virginia and raised up in Maryland. She is a Bachelor of Science degree graduate from Hampton University and a member of Alpha Kappa alpha Sorority Inc. She got married to David Hall in 1991-1998 and later divorced him.
Wanda’s Career :
Her stand-up comedy career began in 1987 in Washington D.C talent competition. She got her first big boost in career when she opened for Chris Rock at Caroline’s Comedy Club.
Wanda was among the writing team in 1997 for Chris Rock Show which later was nominated to four Emmy awards and won one award in 1999.
She has appeared on films like the Pootie Tang and TV shows, hosted Comedy Central’s popular show, voiced a recurring character Gladys in puppet shows for Comedy Central. Sykes has also served as a correspondent for the HBO’s and a procurement officer for NSA.
Apart from comedy and acting, Wanda is an author and has written books like Yea, I said It. Published in September 2004; the book has humorous observations touching on family, life and the current events.
Wanda won the Comedy Central Commie Award in 2003, MTV Video Music Award in 1999, and MTV Movie Awards in 2003. She has also stared in movies like The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, Down to Earth and the Monster-in-Law.
